As we all know, the kitchen is the heart of every home. The heart of the home is where the family gathers for daily meals and is the place where guests are commonly entertained. It can be said that a well-designed kitchen sets up any host for a great night of entertaining for any occasion. However, this statement begs the question of what aspects of your kitchen are vital for this perfection in entertaining. Below, are key points that the Designers at Friend Lumber know will set your kitchen apart from the rest.

Counter Space- It is crunch time before your special occasion and you still have to bake a cake, peel potatoes, and get the cheese platter done. In these hectic moments having the available work space allows room to spread out and get those last minute dishes simultaneously done. In addition, having ample work space allows a helpful family member or guest assist in food preparation without cramping the host.

Organization- We all own decorative platters and cookie trays of every size and theme. Many cabinet brands now sell a tray pull out that keeps trays organized and easy to access. These are the one of the many features come with cabinets. These features allow for quick and easy use without having to dig to the back of a cabinet for that once a year item. Our Designers stress exploring these features to make finding your pots, fine china, and special occasion cookware easier.

Appliances- When entertaining the warming drawer is a fantastic appliance for those hot dishes that get prepared before guests arrive. When thinking of a new layout weigh the importance of certain appliances. Most people do not purchase a warming drawer and opt for more cabinet space. Although, if you are one to entertain often a warming drawer may just be the right option for you. However, this being said your appliances are based on your preference.

Islands- The panic is on and you just realized you forgot to borrow another folding table to seat more guests or display the food in a buffet style. If you have the floor space consider an Island for your kitchen. All our designers have personal experience with the glorious benefits of an Island. The additional space allows for a seamless serving station that keeps providing food simple throughout any occasion. However, the island doesn’t stop there and can provide that additional storage space in your kitchen to allow for extra appliances or accessories that make the functionality of your kitchen perfect.

Hutches- Don’t have room in your kitchen for an island or for additional storage? Take a look at your dining area and consider a hutch. In today’s cabinet industry, cabinets can be made to look like elegant pieces of furniture. A hutch is designed to match your décor and to store the items that would not necessarily fit in your kitchen. Also, a hutch can be designed to offer some additional counter space that allows for guests to rest their glasses or to hold appetizers.

We at Friend Lumber Company’s Design Center hope that these points are helpful in designing the most functionally appropriate kitchen for your home. Finally, Happy Holidays may your celebrations be filled with laughter and happy memories.
